Formal charges have been brought against two men in connection with a suitcase robbery where a believed to be irritant spray resulted in harm at the UK's busiest airport.
Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two counts of robbery and charges for administering a noxious substance, as confirmed by court officials.
The charges follow an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Before the assault occurred, two women were robbed of their suitcases stolen after getting out of a parking garage elevator, police said.
A three-year-old girl was one of the people hurt in the event. Several persons went to hospital for treatment and were subsequently released.
The incident – which authorities stated was isolated and deemed non-terroristic – led to train delays and the partial closure of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time.
