The latest Far Cry instalment that gamers explored was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and debuted back in October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it has a reputation for celebrating action and mayhem with similar enthusiasm, all while presenting engaging, ideologically themed tales. No wonder then that FX's recent announcement for a Far Cry seasonal program pulled in two creators whose creations have exemplified all of those things.
Based on Ubisoft's hit video game series, the self-contained anthology series will be available on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The series will also mirror the video games' structure by introducing a fresh location and group of personalities in every instalment.
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had magnificent relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for placing confidence in us with this cherished property.”
Mac will also feature in the show, but as of now, we are unsure of what role that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently greenlit for more episodes, with FX and Disney finalizing a new overall deal with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate together with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly accommodating, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And along the way, my FX partners continues to lift me up with their ongoing belief and backing.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology-style series. Each game is a variation of a concept, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” said Hawley. “To create a large-scale action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always delving into the core of people through this intricate and unpredictable viewpoint, is a ultimate goal. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Rob and bring our common irreverent, visionary sensibility to the audience.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
