The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
