Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just seven months after instigating disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy time with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford & Wilder

The pair had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
