The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
